Cummins Inc. has opened a $5.4 million global logistics hub in Singapore to enhance its worldwide support network for product distribution.
The Columbus, Indiana-based engine maker said Pandan Logistics Centre, one of eight major distribution centers, is intended to serve customers in the United States and Europe as well as Asia. Capacity was increased by 30% when three smaller centers in Singapore were consolidated into the Cummins Global Logistics hub.
“Singapore is a world-class global logistics hub with a strong advantage of being at the heart of Southeast Asia and sitting right across the major shipping lanes,” said Doug Sunkel, executive director of Cummins Global Logistics.
Cummins, which does business in 190 countries, last year generated about $8 billion in international sales, or 44% of its $19.2 billion revenue, according to its annual report.
The hub's features include a materials flow system managed by radio frequency, a three-tier mezzanine storage system, in-rack sprinklers to suppress fires and material-handling equipment with cameras and motion sensors.
