Cummins Inc., the last independent heavy-duty diesel engine maker in the United States, announced several overseas business developments.
Cummins, Columbus, Ind., said June 24 that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Russian truck maker KAMAZ Inc. to negotiate licensing of Cummins’ Euro VI emissions technology to ZAO Cummins KAMA, a joint venture of the two companies headquartered in Russia.
Euro VI, which has not yet been phased in, will be the European Union’s most stringent emissions standard for trucks and will require emissions cuts almost as deep as those that went into effect in the United States earlier this year.
ZAO Cummins KAMA produces Cummins light-duty B series diesel engines at a factory in Chelny, Tatarstan.
In addition, Cummins said that sales derived from India, one of the company’s key overseas markets, could rise as much as 40% from last year’s level of $1.35 billion.
The improvement will come from increased demand for truck engines, marine engines and engines for stationary application, said Anant Talaulicar, managing director of the Cummins’ India-area organization.
