DAF to Boost Truck Output To Meet High European Demand

DAF Trucks NV, a unit of U.S. truck maker Paccar Inc., plans to increase production at its main plant by about 5% to 192 vehicles per day starting in June to meet high European freight transport demand, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

The Netherlands-based company’s president, Aad Goudriaan, said in an interview that there would be no summer slowdown in truck production, Bloomberg reported.

European cargo transporters have handled more shipments and bought more trucks amid first-quarter economic growth that exceeded 6% in Poland and was higher than estimates in the 13 countries that use the euro, Bloomberg said.

Commercial-vehicle makers such as Volvo AB and MAN AG all have reported record earnings as sales increase in Eastern Europe and Russia, Bloomberg reported.

Paccar is the parent company of U.S. truck makers Peterbilt Motors Co. and Kenworth Truck Co.
