Daimler Truck AG CEO Martin Daum will temporarily assume the role of chief financial officer at the original equipment manufacturer, the company said Aug. 14.

Daum replaces Jochen Goetz, who died unexpectedly Aug. 5, adding the responsibilities of CFO to that of CEO and chairman of the truck maker’s board of management.

The loss of Goetz left Daimler Truck “dismayed,” the company said, adding that “nevertheless, Daimler Truck must look forward.”

Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany-based Daimler Truck’s supervisory board has engaged an outside search firm to assist the company in filling the position.

Goetz, who was 52, died in a “tragic accident.” He is survived by a wife and two children.

Daimler Truck said Goetz was “decisively responsible” for the OEM’s spinoff from its former parent company, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, in December 2021.

Goetz’s positions at the parent company included that of director of finance for North American operations with Daimler Truck North America. DTNA is based in Portland, Ore.

Freightliner and Western Star are truck brands of DTNA.
