Daimler Trucks North America said it plans to build a new $150 million headquarters in Portland, Ore.

The truck maker said in a Sept. 13 press conference it expects the 265,000-square foot facility to be completed by 2016.

“As we prepare for our future, our new headquarters building in Portland will position us for long-term business optimization and efficiencies while enhancing the employee experience in a contemporary, environmentally friendly and technically advanced facility,” Daimler Trucks North America CEO Martin Daum said in a statement.

City and state tax incentives will cover about 10% of the project’s cost, and the company said it will make 400 new white-collar hires.

There was speculation that the new headquarters could lead to the closing of offices at Daimler’s facilities in North and South Carolina. But the company recently sent an e-mail to employees saying it had no plans to close its locations there, the Portland Business Journal reported.
