Darr to Head Short-Line Rail Group
Linda Bauer Darr, a Washington transportation trade group executive, will become president of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association when current leader Richard Timmons retires at the end of 2014.
Darr, a former American Trucking Associations vice president, will be leaving as CEO of American Moving and Storage Association at the end of September, the rail group announced. She will be the first woman to head the group known as ASLRRA, which represents more than 500 small and midsize railroads.
Darr also was deputy assistant secretary for budget and programs in the Transportation Department under President Bill Clinton.
“Ms. Darr has significant experience in leading trade associations and has spent almost her entire career in the transportation industry,” said Ed McKechnie, chairman of the rail group and executive vice president of Watco Cos. “Her government service was at a very senior level in the agency that has direct budget and programmatic oversight over the Federal Railroad Administration.”
She has headed the movers’ group since 2007.
Prior to that appointment, she was a vice president at the American Bus Association.
Timmons has led the rail group for nearly 12 years after industry service with Norfolk Southern and 32 years in the U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of three-star general.
