Darren Boyd Schulte, a veteran of the truck stop and travel center industry with nearly 40 years of experience, has been named interim CEO of Natso.

Schulte takes over as the organization transitions from Lisa Mullings’ two-decade tenure. Mullings announced in December that she would step down at the end of 2024 after 20 years as president and CEO.

“I am honored to be named interim CEO of Natso and look forward to supporting Natso, the members and staff as we continue to advance the interests of the truck stop and travel center industry,” Schulte said. “Natso leadership and the Natso team are committed to continued success for the industry.”

During Mullings’ tenure, Natso established itself as a prominent voice for truck stops and travel centers on Capitol Hill and within federal regulatory agencies. Her leadership helped shape policy discussions around highway transportation while advancing members’ business interests.

Since joining Natso as vice president of membership in 2012, Schulte has overseen the organization’s education, research and training programs for truck stop and travel center operators. His responsibilities have included member recruitment and retention, along with managing multimillion-dollar budgets and leading large teams across the industry.

“With Darren as interim CEO, the board of directors is confident that Natso’s long-standing commitment to serving its member companies will continue,” said Natso Board Chairman Joe Zietlow. “Natso is fortunate to have an exceptionally strong team with leaders who have a clear vision for the continued success of the organization and its members.”
