DAT Freight & Analytics has acquired Trucker Tools, a digital freight-tracking company, in a move aiming to strengthen its real-time load visibility and freight-matching capabilities, the company said.

The deal, which closed Dec. 17, brings Trucker Tools’ platform suite for freight visibility, digital load booking and carrier engagement under the umbrella of DAT’s operations. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Trucker Tools’ technology provides freight tracking for more than 750 brokers and supports 350,000 owner-operators and small carriers. Its Smart Load Board enables automated load booking, rate negotiation and document management.

“Tracking and visibility have become critical needs for all of our customers,” said Jeff Clementz, CEO of DAT. “We couldn’t be more excited to deliver best-in-class solutions to them with Trucker Tools’ capabilities.”

Kary Jablonski, CEO of Trucker Tools, said the partnership offers an opportunity for growth while extending the company’s reach. “By joining DAT, we’re better positioned to shape the future of our industry while unlocking new opportunities for customers, employees and partners,” Jablonski said.

DAT One hosts 668,000 loads daily and delivers market rates based on $1 trillion in freight transactions annually, it said, noting that the acquisition of Trucker Tools will allow it to further streamline digital freight matching and enhance GPS-based load tracking for brokers, carriers and shippers.

“The technology and talented people behind Trucker Tools are an ideal fit for DAT,” Clementz said. “Together, Trucker Tools’ real-time tracking and visibility and DAT’s freight matching and analytics solutions will streamline the way freight brokers, carriers and shippers do business.”

Trucker Tools will continue operating under its current leadership, with Jablonski joining DAT’s executive team.

DAT acquired Trucker Tools from ASG, a portfolio company of Alpine Investors. Raymond James served as the financial adviser to Trucker Tools and ASG, while Willkie Farr & Gallagher acted as the legal adviser.
