Descartes Systems Group has acquired Airclic Inc., a provider of mobile systems that help companies reduce the cost of delivering goods by automating traditional paper-based processes.
The purchase price is about $29.7 million, Waterloo, Ontario-based Descartes said.
Airclic, based in Trevose, Pennsylvania, has a cloud-based system that helps streamline and automate companies’ last- mile logistics processes.
“Descartes and Airclic have several common customers who have achieved significant value by augmenting their route planning and optimization systems with comprehensive mobile data at the driver, vehicle and stop level,” Descartes CEO Edward Ryan said.
“Demand is steadily growing for robust mobile applications that help customers improve their fleet operations and compete more effectively,” said Andrew Roszko, Descartes’ senior vice president of sales.
Roszko said Airclic will help strengthen Descartes’ mobile telematics offerings due to experience with more than 40,000 handheld devices.
