DHL Sets 4.9% Net Rate Increase

DHL Express said Tuesday it would raise rates by a net 4.9% for 2008, matching previously announced rate increases by major competitors UPS Inc. and Fed Ex Corp.

The rates will include a 4.9% increase in the net average shipping rate for DHL Domestic Air Express and International Express and an average increase of 4.9% for DHL Ground shipments.

The increase for air express and international shipments is made up of 6.9% average increase in the base rates, offset by a 2% point reduction in the Air fuel surcharge index.

The new rates will take effect Jan. 6. Other changes include a 10-cent increase in the surcharge for residential delivery and for both residential and commercial delivery area service.



Exception handling will increase by 50 cents, while the large package fee will increase to $45.
