DHS Moves TWIC Compliance Date Back to April

The Department of Homeland Security said it pushed back the enforcement date for the Transportation Worker Identification Credential program to April 15, 2009, although some areas will need to comply sooner.

Previously, the compliance date was to have been Sept. 28.

Compliance will be implemented on a Captain of the Port Zone, or COPT, basis. All COTP zones must be compliant by April 2009 but some COTP zones will begin enforcement earlier, according to American Trucking Associations.

COTP zones for Boston, Northern New England and Southern New England will require TWIC cards for all drivers beginning October 15.
