Dicom Acquires Eastern Connection

Private-equity investment firm Wind Point Partners said its Dicom Transportation Group, a business-to-business expedited transportation service based in Montreal, acquired Eastern Connection, a regional overnight parcel business that operates in the northeastern United States.

Eastern Connection ranks No. 11 on the Package/Courier sector list of the Transport Topics Top 100 For-Hire Carrier list with estimated revenue of $45 million in 2014.

Dicom ranks No. 92 on the for-hire TT100 with 2014 revenues of $230 million. Dicom made the list for the first time this year.

Wind Point Partners said Eastern Connection, founded in 1983, is an asset-light provider of B2B pickup and delivery services to more than 5,000 cities and 6,800 ZIP codes stretching from Maine to Virginia to Ohio.

No terms of the acquisition were announced.

“Combining Eastern Connection into Dicom creates one of the largest parcel networks serving this part of North America,” Dicom CEO Scott Dobak said.

Dicom said its acquisition program focuses on acquiring courier, less-than-truckload and transportation providers in Quebec, Ontario and the United States.

In addition, Dicom said it is seeking 3PL providers that manage transportation, logistics and supply chain functions for businesses in Canada, the United States and Mexico.

Also, Dicom acquired Time Logistics Carriers in November 2014 and Modern Forwarding and Obris Logistics in March and June, respectively.
