Dicom Transportation Buys Courier Express Enterprises

Dicom Transportation Group has acquired Courier Express Enterprises to add last-mile delivery capabilities in the Eastern United States as the buyer’s acquisition pace accelerates.

Syracuse, New York-based Courier Express, known as CXP, represents the fifth acquisition in 18 months since Dicom was bought by investor Wind Point Partners. Today’s announcement followed three weeks after the purchase of Extra Express, a California company.

Dicom, based in Montreal, plans to penetrate the Eastern United States by adding Courier Express’ 10-state service area stretching from Maine to Virginia to its Express division, a statement said. The purchase of Extra Express, announced on July 21, added last-mile delivery in the West. Dicom previously has added last-mile delivery capabilities in the Midwest and South.

Terms weren’t disclosed for the acquisition of Courier Express, which uses more than 1,000 dedicated delivery providers for business-to-business shipments.

“We are very excited to establish Dicom’s last-mile presence on the East Coast with the acquisition of CXP,” said Dicom CEO Scott Dobak, who also said in a statement that the purchase “will allow us to continue to expand the breadth and scope of services we provide to our customers.”

Dicom ranks No. 92 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada. The company also provides freight and logistics services, with overnight and second-day parcel offerings.
