Diesel Decreases 1.1¢ to $3.886, DOE Says
The average price of diesel dropped 1.1 cents to $3.886 a gallon, the Department of Energy said Oct. 17 in a report that reflected the price Oct. 14.
The decrease was the fifth straight weekly decline for diesel, figures from DOE’s Energy Information Administration show. It’s the longest streak of diesel-price decreases since a six-week string from May to July.
Gasoline fell 1.3 cents in the Oct. 14 survey to $3.354 a gallon, the sixth straight decline and longest streak since April.
EIA usually would have released its Oct. 14 report on Oct. 15, since Columbus Day was a federal holiday. But EIA’s offices were closed because of the federal government shutdown, and only reopened Oct. 17.
The agency said fueling stations still sent the data for the survey Oct. 14.
