Diesel and gasoline each declined for the first time in three weeks, with diesel slipping 0.6 cent to $3.862 a gallon, the Department of Energy said Monday.

Gasoline fell 1.3 cents to $3.661, DOE said following its weekly surveys of filling stations.

The diesel downturn — which followed 5.8 cents in gains over the previous two weeks — left trucking’s main fuel 91.9 cents over the same week last year.

Gasoline’s decline followed 9.3 cents of gains over the past two weeks, according to DOE records. Gas is now 94 cents over the same week a year ago.

Diesel’s $3.81 price three weeks ago was the lowest since February, and it is now 26.2 cents below the year’s high of $4.124 set May 2, which was the highest since August 2008.

Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
