Diesel Falls 3¢ to $3.919 in Biggest Drop Since April; Gas Hits 9-Month Low
Diesel fell 3 cents to $3.919 a gallon, its third straight decrease and the biggest single-week downturn in five months, while gasoline fell 7 cents to $3.425, its lowest price since January, the Department of Energy reported.
The diesel decline — the biggest since a 3.1-cent downturn April 29 — followed last week’s 2.5-cent decrease. The price is now in its longest streak of weekly declines since June.
Diesel is 16 cents below the same week last year, DOE figures showed.
Gasoline’s decrease was its largest in seven weeks and the fourth consecutive decline, DOE said. It is at its lowest level since Jan. 28, when it was $3.357.
Despite the recent slides, trucking’s main fuel has held at or above $3.90 a gallon for the past seven weeks.
Each week, DOE surveys about 400 diesel filling stations and 800 gasoline stations to compile national average prices.
