Diesel’s pump price held at $3.067 a gallon, the fifth straight week it has been at least $3 a gallon, while gasoline dipped just over a penny, the Department of Energy said Monday.

Gasoline slipped 1.1 cents to $2.806, its second straight decline following last week’s 1.7-cent downturn, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.

Diesel had dipped 0.6-cent last week after gaining 12.2 cents in three previous increases. Last week’s decline was just the second in seven weeks.

The price of trucking’s main fuel is now 25.9 cents more expensive than the same week a year ago, while gas is 11.2 cents over the same week last year.

Gasoline had risen 14 cents in three straight increases before receding 2.8 cents over the past two weeks, DOE figures showed.

Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
