The national average diesel price extended its downward movement, shedding 3.2 cents a gallon to $3.726, according to Energy Information Administration data released June 3.

Highlights

  • Diesel’s price has dropped for eight consecutive weeks, marking a 33.5-cent falloff since a gallon cost $4.061 on April 8.
  • The average diesel price hasn’t been this inexpensive since it was $3.725 on Jan. 17, 2022.
  • A gallon of diesel costs 7.1 cents less on average than it did at this time in 2023.
  • Diesel’s average price went down in all 10 regions in EIA’s weekly survey, ranging from a high of 4.3 cents in New England to a low of 1.7 cents in California.
  • With the start of the summer driving season underway, the cost of a gallon of gasoline dropped 6.1 cents to $3.516. That's 2.5 cents less than it was at this time a year ago.
