Diesel prices across the U.S. averaged $3.521 per gallon for the week ending Nov. 11, a 1.5-cent decline from the previous week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. This marks the third consecutive week of price reductions for a total of 5.2 cents.

Year-Over-Year Comparison

The national average is 77.3 cents lower versus the same week in 2023. Price changes varied significantly across PADD regions, with California’s $1.033 falloff from last year being the steepest.

Regional Analysis

East Coast (PADD 1): Diesel prices declined by 1.1 cents to an average of $3.579 per gallon. Subregional trends reveal mixed movements:

• New England (PADD 1A): Prices dipped slightly by 0.6 cent, settling at $3.747. This is 73.6 cents lower than the same period last year.

• Central Atlantic (PADD 1B): This was the only subregion to see a price increase, with a 1.5-cent rise bringing the average to $3.807. Year-over-year prices remain 72.1 cents lower.

• Lower Atlantic (PADD 1C): The region recorded a 2.2-cent decrease, bringing the average to $3.478 and down 60.1 cents from 2023 levels.

Midwest (PADD 2): In the Midwest, diesel prices fell by 1.3 cents to $3.504 per gallon. The region has experienced a cumulative decline of 6.5 cents over the past three weeks. Compared with last year, prices are 80.4 cents lower.

Gulf Coast (PADD 3): Historically the region with the lowest diesel prices, the Gulf Coast saw a 1.4-cent decrease, bringing the average to $3.170 per gallon. Prices in the region are 75.7 cents lower year over year, reflecting continued refinery efficiency and proximity to crude supply.

Rocky Mountain (PADD 4): The Rocky Mountain region experienced the sharpest drop, with prices declining by 5.8 cents to $3.525 per gallon. This marks a notable 8-cent decline over the past two weeks, with prices down 83.1 cents compared with the same week in 2023.

West Coast (PADD 5): The West Coast maintained its status as the highest-priced region, averaging $4.180 per gallon, a 1-cent drop from the previous week. Subregional analysis reveals:

• West Coast less California: Prices edged down by 0.6 cent to $3.757, a decrease of 89.4 cents from 2023 levels.

• California: Prices in the state fell 1.5 cents to $4.666, marking the steepest year-over-year decline across all regions at $1.033 per gallon.

Gasoline Update

The national average price for a gallon of gasoline nudged down 1.7 cents to $3.052. That's 29.7 cents cheaper than at this time a year ago.
