Diesel Rises 0.3¢ to $4.135 a Gallon
Diesel rose 0.3 cent to $4.135 a gallon and gasoline gained 3.1 cents to $3.878 — the 11th straight increases for both fuels, the Department of Energy reported Monday.
The diesel gain increase leaves it 30.2 cents over the same week last year, while gas is 27.7 cents higher, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.
Diesel has risen 48.7 cents and gasoline 52.2 cents in the 11 gains. Monday’s diesel upturn was the smallest of the increases, followed by last week’s half-cent increase.
Oil, meanwhile, fell $2.38 from a four-month high $99 a barrel to finish the trading day Monday at $96.62 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, Bloomberg reported.
The biggest single-day crude decline in eight weeks followed a report earlier Monday that manufacturing in the New York region fell more than expected this month, Bloomberg said.
Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
