Diesel’s national average retail price rose for a second straight week, climbing 1.7 cents to $2.96 a gallon, the Department of Energy said Monday.
The two weeks of increases have totaled 2.9 cents, following four straight declines that had totaled 6 cents, according to DOE figures.
Monday’s pump price was 33.8 cents higher than the same week last year, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.
Gasoline, meanwhile, edged up 0.2 cents to $2.723 a gallon, also its second straight increase.
The gain followed last week’s 3.9-cent jump and left gas 17.1 cents over the same week a year ago.
Crude oil rose more than $1 Monday to almost $75 a barrel, its first increase in five days, following an advance in the stock market, Bloomberg reported.
Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
