DOT Awards $1.5 Bln. for Transportation Projects
The Department of Transportation Wednesday announced that 51 projects will receive $1.5 billion in grants under the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery program.
The grants will go to state and local governments and agencies for improvements to roads, bridges, rail, ports, transit and intermodal facilities, DOT said in a statement.
DOT selected the projects as part of TIGER, a competitive grant program authorized a year ago in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The chosen projects “will create jobs and spur lasting economic growth, reduce gridlock for the traveling public, and provide Americans with more safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable transportation choices,” DOT said.
The projects will also help businesses “move goods more efficiently and better compete in the global economy,” the statement said.
