The Department of Transportation’s freight transportation services index fell 2.4% in November from a year earlier, DOT said Wednesday.

The 107.6 reading left the TSI at its lowest November level in five years and at its lowest level since January 2004, when it read 106.5.

The index is 4.9% below the historical peak reading of 113.1 of November 2005, and it fell 1.4% in November from the previous month, DOT said.

The TSI is a seasonally adjusted monthly index measuring the output of services provided by the for-hire transportation industries, including railroad, air, truck, inland waterways, pipeline and local transit.
