Drayage truckers continued their protests over delays at the Port of Savannah last week.
Since the Oct. 9 introduction of a new computerized system to control the logistical side of port operations, driver unrest has spread. Computer problems have caused a drop in container traffic and an increase in wait times for truckers hauling at the port and they have been protesting at the gates.
On Oct. 17, port spokeswoman Patricia Reese told Transport Topics that she knew of no truckers demonstrations. But a call to Savannah Port Truckers Association representative Jim Stewart revealed that not only were there at least 150 truckers demonstrating, but the noise could clearly be overheard during the conversation.
