Durable Goods Orders Jump 5.9%

Durable goods orders jumped 5.9% in July, the Commerce Department said Friday.

The drop followed a revised 1.9% increase in June.

Excluding transportation equipment, bookings rose 3.7%.

The gain was well over the 1% increase predicted by economists, Bloomberg reported.

Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
