Durable Goods Orders Rise 0.5%

Durable goods orders fell 0.5% in June, the Commerce Department said Thursday.

The drop followed a revised 0.2% downturn May.

Including transportation equipment, bookings rose 1.4%, led by a jump in orders for commercial aircraft.

The drop was in contrast to a 1.9% increase predicted by economists, Bloomberg reported.

Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
