Durable Goods Orders Rise 1.3% in July

Durable goods orders rose 1.3% in July, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

Excluding transportation orders, bookings for goods meant to last several years rose 0.7%, Commerce said.

Economists had expected orders to be unchanged, and excluding transportation orders to fall by 0.7%, Bloomberg reported.

Durable goods include large items such as refrigerators and air conditioners. Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
