Durable Orders Drop by Most in 7 Months

Durable goods orders in August saw their biggest drop in seven months, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

The 4.9% drop followed a revised 6.1% increase in July, Commerce said.

Excluding transportation equipment, bookings fell 1.8% after a 3.4% gain.

The decline was more than the 4% drop predicted by economists, Bloomberg reported.

Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
