Advances in Internet use are having a great effect in helping carriers save money and operate more efficiently. They also have allowed faster reporting of such data as the location and status of cargo, as trucking leaders seek a role in shaping the vibrant online marketplace.

Many carriers are reluctant to talk about their investment in information technology. However, they have high hopes it will lower costs by reducing the staff needed to handle transactions with their customers.
