Electric Truck Maker Shuts Down
Electric truck manufacturer Boulder Electric Vehicle has shut down and closed its factories in Colorado and California, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.
The maker of electric medium- and light-duty trucks opened in 2011 and employed about 50 people at its plant in Chatsworth, California, and 40 at its facility in Lafayette, Colorado, according to the newspaper.
Boulder CEO Carter Brown told the Daily News the company is not filing for bankruptcy, but it essentially has been “mothballed.” It continues to service vehicles that are in use at fleets in L.A., Texas, New York and Chicago.
“No one was biting off significant orders that would support full-scale manufacturing,” Brown told the newspaper.
The firm’s trucks have a range of 80 to 100 miles on a single charge and can drive up to 75 mph. Its series 500 truck has a payload capacity of 4,000 pounds, and the series 1,000 is capable of a 6,500-pound payload.
