Experts to Consider California’s Environmental Regulations

fficials from federal and California regulatory agencies said they will meet with trucking, port and rail executives Jan. 30-Feb. 1 in Long Beach, Calif., to discuss the future of goods movement in the state and the implications that new California environmental regulations will have on the transportation industry.

Jaime Nack, spokeswoman for the annual Faster Freight-Cleaner Air conference, said that a primary focus for trucking will be whether some of California’s environmental regulations, such as its idle-reduction law, could be adopted on a federal level.

California has adopted several environmental regulations — such as a particulate-matter emission standard for truck refrigeration units and auxiliary power unit emission standards for trucks with sleeper berths, both due to take effect in 2008 — which are more stringent than federal regulations.
