Family of Trailer Bridge Founder to Sell Company Stake

Family members of Malcom McLean, the founder of intermodal carrier Trailer Bridge Inc., are planning to sell their stake in the company, Trailer Bridge said.

Collectively, the McLean family owns about 5.8 million shares of Trailer Bridge, or about 47.8% of the carrier’s outstanding stock, the company said Monday in a statement.

No timetable was given for the sale, Trailer Bridge said.

Malcom McLean Jr., McLean’s son, and Greggory Mendenhall, the younger McLean’s son-in-law, are both members of Trailer Bridge’s board of directors.

“We look forward to cooperating with the family to assist it in achieving its business goals while at the same time fulfilling our duties to our public stockholders,” said John McCown, chief executive officer of Trailer Bridge.

The elder McLean, who died in 2001, founded Trailer Bridge in 1991.
