PHILADELPHIA — Technology company FastPort Inc. continues its work to bring military veterans into trucking as drivers as they rejoin the civilian labor force.

FastPort acts as a medium between carriers searching for drivers and veterans looking for a first post-military job.

FastPort co-founder Jim Ray said that beyond sentimental reasons, the argument for hiring veterans is strong in that they tend to be safety-conscious, leaders, fit and drug-free.

The company does driver recruiting on behalf of 12 trucking companies, a majority of which are on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of for-hire carriers. Ray said FastPort has visited U.S. military bases in Germany to look for drivers.

Ray said he wants to add 50 more carriers to the list of companies seeking veterans as drivers.
