FedEx Corp. said Friday it will raise its net average shipping rate for FedEx Express next year by 4.9%.

The increase is composed of a 6.9% increase in standard list rates, offset by a 2% reduction in fuel surcharge, the company said in a statement.

The new rates will be effective Jan. 7, and will apply to U.S. and U.S. export express package and freight shipments, FedEx said.

Rates and surcharges for the FedEx Ground unit will also increase next year; those changes will be announced later this year, the company said.

FedEx Corp. is ranked No. 2 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
