FedEx Corp. said it has completed the acquisition of Mexico’s Servicios Nacionales Mupa S.A de C.V., or MultiPack.
FedEx said the move strengthens its network in Mexico by allowing it to provide a wider range of transportation and logistics services. FedEx unveiled its intention to buy MultiPack in December and said the deal closed July 25, placing it under the control of FedEx Express, the corporation’s air-express division.
“The acquisition of MultiPack further solidifies our long-term presence in the market,” said Michael Ducker, chief operating officer of FedEx Express. “FedEx is expanding its footprint in order to better meet the demands of Mexican businesses, and res-ponding to the growth potential of this dynamic economy.
MultiPack offers pickup and delivery, warehousing and logistics services. The company, which opened in 1939, operates 48 distribution centers, 13 warehouses and more than 500 retail outlets, all of which will be consolidated into FedEx.
As integration of MultiPack progresses, customers in Mexico will have direct access to all of FedEx’s portfolio of domestic and international transportation and logistics services, the company said.
FedEx, Memphis, Tenn., employs more than 5,000 people in Mexico. It ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
