FedEx Kicks Off Busiest Day
FedEx Corp. kicked off what it expects to be its busiest day in company history, Dec. 15.
The company forecasts it will ship 22.6 million packages Dec. 15 and for holiday-season volume to rise 8.8% to 290 million shipments from the same time last year.
“Our more than 300,000 dedicated team members around the world, combined with our continued investment in our powerful and flexible global networks, position FedEx to once again deliver outstanding customer service this holiday season,” FedEx CEO Frederick Smith said in a statement.

To prepare for the peak season, the company said it has invested $2.5 billion in the past five years and finished 250 capacity expansion projects. The company said it plans on investing $1.2 billion on increased automation and even more capacity with FedEx Ground in 2015.
FedEx ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
