WASHINGTON — Anne Ferro, head of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, told Transport Topics she hoped the agency will get a variety of points of view during its upcoming public hearings on hours-of-service.
“I'm hopeful that we will get a broad range of perspective from users, consumers, regulators, enforcement folks ... and possibly turning over some rocks on some new areas of research,” Ferro told TT Tuesday following a session at the Transportation Research Board on ongoing FMCSA activities.
Earlier this month, FMCSA announced three hearings in Arlington, Va., Dallas and Los Angeles. During the TRB meeting, Ferro said the agency would hold a fourth on Jan. 28 in Davenport, Iowa, “at or very close to a truck stop and closer to the driving population.”
FMCSA is currently working to meet a July deadline to draft a new proposal for the hours rule, a deadline Ferro said the agency intended to meet.
