American Power Group said that it has partnered with Fitzgerald Glider Kits to offer the nation’s first dual-powered natural-gas/diesel-powered glider kit.
A glider kit — a new truck delivered without an engine or transmission — is typically fitted with an older model engine.
The kit offered by the companies runs on a 1990s-era engine fitted with APG’s natural-gas conversion system that displaces a large percent of diesel with either compressed natural gas or liquefied natural gas, APG said.
Compared with standard diesel engines the dual-fuel glider will have between 20% and 30% lower fuel costs and up to 70% lower annual maintenance costs, according to APG.
“In addition to providing fleet owners the opportunity to convert and upgrade their existing diesel fleet to APG’s dual-fuel technology, we now offer fleets a viable path to new natural-gas vehicles,” Lyle Jensen, APG’s CEO, said in a statement.
