An experiment under consideration by the Florida Department of Transportation would test the effects of allowing certain 95,000-pound trucks on state highways.
Up to 2,000 permits for the heavier combinations would be issued annually with restrictions: The vehicle would not be allowed to make stops on the way to the ultimate destination and the loads would have to be in sealed containers.
Florida issues single-trip permits for trucks hauling sealed containers destined to be loaded onto ships traveling to foreign climes. The vehicles may gross out at 95,000 pounds.
