PHILADELPHIA — FlowBelow Aero Inc. is offering a modified version of its Tractor AeroKits for use in flatbed and tank truck applications.
The supplier already had been providing the aerodynamic systems for tractors pulling dry van and refrigerated trailers.
The AeroKits, which include wheel covers and a pair of tandem fairings installed on the tractor, provide an average fuel-economy gain of 3% in tanker and flatbed operations, the company said during an Oct. 17 press conference here at American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition.
Bren Marshell, vice president of sales, said the AeroKits expand the limited aerodynamics opportunities available to tanker and flatbed fleets, which have fewer options to improve trailer airflow since sideskirts and tails generally are not compatible with those trailer types.
More than 160 North American fleets have deployed more than 10,000 Tractor AeroKits, including more than 1,000 in flatbed and tanker applications, the company said.
