FMCSA Issues New Regulations on LCV Training, Driver Hiring

pair of rules the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration published last week would change the way drivers of longer combination vehicles are trained and how all drivers get hired.

However, an official with American Trucking Associations told Transport Topics there were potential pitfalls with both new regulations, which are scheduled to take effect between now and June 1.

The LCV driver-training rule would establish “for the first time ever, minimum training requirements for operators of double and triple trucks,” according to a March 31 statement from the agency.



A second rule published in the March 30 Federal Register would require all carriers to provide three years of safety data within 30 days of a request by a driver’s prospective new employer.
