AS VEGAS – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration intends to publish results of its hazardous materials security technologies testing late this month, a hazmat specialist from the truck safety agency said.

However, it was unclear if FMCSA would establish rules for trucking firms to follow in guarding hazmat shipments against terrorist attacks. The Department of Homeland Security may publish those rules, a regulatory specialist at American Trucking Associations said.

Joe DeLorenzo, a hazmat specialist with FMCSA, said the agency intended to post results of its operational tests of technologies designed to enhance the safety and security of hazmat transportation on its Web site by the end of October. FMCSA launched the tests in 2002 as part of a proposal on hazmat transportation security.
