FMCSA Shuts Down Two Carriers

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced March 19 it has shut down two motor carriers for disregarding federal safety regulations and putting their companies’ drivers, passengers and the public at risk.

FMCSA said GEG Construction Inc., in Indian Orchard, Mass, failed to ensure that the company’s seven trucks were “systematically and properly inspected, repaired and maintained, and operated vehicles in an out-of-service condition.”

In addition, GEG employed drivers in violation of drug-and-alcohol testing rules. In one instance, a driver without a valid commercial driver license was allowed to operate a commercial vehicle, the agency said.

FMCSA investigators found that Allen Quandahl, based in Waukon, Iowa, and which owns 15 power units, did not properly repair and maintain its trucks, resulting in systemic accidents. The carrier also failed to monitor and ensure that its drivers complied with controlled substances and alcohol use and testing regulations.

GEG did not return a phone call, and calls to Quandahl were not answered.
