Former ATA Chairman Kuntz Joins SkyBitz Board

Ray Kuntz, immediate past chairman of American Trucking Associations, has joined the board of directors at trailer tracking firm SkyBitz, the company said Monday.

SkyBitz, Sterling, Va., provides battery powered trailer tracking devices.

“SkyBitz and our customers will reap the benefit of Ray Kuntz’s long-time experience as a trucking industry leader and SkyBitz solution user,” said Homaira Akbari, chief executive officer of SkyBitz.

Kuntz, chief executive officer of truckload carrier Watkins Shepard Trucking Co., Helena, Mont., was ATA’s chairman from June 2007 through October 2008.

“Proper utilization of trailers has always been a key factor in trucking profitability but the current soft economy has made it an even larger factor,” Kuntz said.

“The economy also leads us to expect an increase in cargo theft [and] SkyBitz solutions allow for cost effective ways to prevent cargo theft and recover it when it happens,” he said.
