Former FMCSA Chief John Hill to Lead Indiana Homeland Security Agency

John Hill, the former administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, will lead Indiana’s Department of Homeland Security in January, Gov.-elect Mike Pence (R) announced.

“An expert in his field, John Hill’s decades of experience as a public servant serve as testament to his commitment to safety and emergency preparedness at all levels of government,” Pence, who will be inaugurated Jan. 14, said in a statement late last week.

“In the years ahead, he will be a tremendous asset to our administration and to the people of Indiana,” he said.

Hill was apppointed FMCSA administrator in 2006 after serving in other leadership roles in the agency since 2003. He left in 2009 when George W. Bush’s terms as president ended.

After FMCSA, Hill worked as a consultant in trucking safety and compliance. Prior to joining the federal government, Hill had worked for the Indiana State Police since 1974.
