Forum Set for Use of 'Black Boxes'

The National Transportation Safety Board and the International Transportation Safety Association have scheduled a symposium on transportation recorders for May 3 through 5 in Arlington, Va.

The three-day conference is designed to identify methods for expanding the use of recorders in all transportation modes for safety, commercial and economic advantages, said NTSB Chairman Jim Hall.

Panel discussions will examine the current state of recorder technology, ways to expand their use and privacy issues surrounding the use of data.

The NTSB supports the installation of accident recorders in trucks. Such recorders in the aviation industry are referred to as “black boxes.”
