Non-union employees of Freightliner Corp. will each receive a $1,000 bonus as well as a raise, the company announced April 1.

The manufacturer, based in Portland, Ore., said the bonus is a “thank you” to its employees who have helped Freightliner retain its seven-year lead in the heavy-truck market. The company also achieved the sales lead in Class 4 through 8 commercial vehicles in North America for the first time in its history.

The bonuses will be dispensed in April. Also, a new two-step wage program will increase the top truck assembler’s salary to $21 an hour by June 1, 2000. The top wage rates will increase 85 cents an hour June 1 and 75 cents more one year later.
