he General Accounting Office said it now wants to release by Feb. 9 its widely anticipated report on the federal government’s 2002 diesel emissions standard and its effect on the trucking industry, the agency said last week.

The report will look at the clean-air rules for diesel engines the Environmental Protection Agency required most engine manufacturers to meet in October 2002. It will also examine the rules EPA has imposed for stricter diesel standards in 2007 and 2010.

Earlier this month, GAO had said it might delay its release of the report until mid-March.

John Stephenson, GAO’s director of natural resources and environment, said Jan. 21 that the report’s “scheduled release date is Feb. 9” and that even with potential last-minute EPA reviews, the report would be out “by the end of February at the latest.”
