Gasoline Prices Jump, Journal Reports

Gasoline prices have risen for 32 straight days to $3.73 a gallon, a four-month high, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

The national retail gasoline price has jumped 43 cents since Jan. 17, the Journal reported, citing the motorist group AAA.

The gains are in part due to refinery shutdowns leading to tighter supplies, a AAA spokeswoman told the Journal.

During January and February, the two months with the lowest demand, refineries typically schedule maintenance that can run from a few days to several weeks, the Journal reported.

The Department of Energy will release its weekly price survey of filling stations on Tuesday afternoon in Washington, due to the federal holiday on Monday.
