The average U.S. price for a gallon of regular-grade gasoline fell 1.7 cents over the past two weeks to $3.26, ending a four-week run of increases, according to a Dec. 22 Lundberg Survey Inc. report.

The average price was nearly unchanged from the average the same week a year earlier, Reuters reported.

Long Island had the highest average at $3.62 a gallon, while for the second survey in a row, Tulsa, Okla., had the lowest average at $2.84. The average reached a year-to-date peak of $3.795 in the Feb. 22 survey.

The survey covers the two-week period ended Dec. 20 and is based on information obtained at about 2,500 filling stations.

The Department of Energy will release its weekly survey of diesel fuel and gasoline prices the afternoon of Dec. 23.
